Welcome to my blog everyone! Over the coming months I'm going to be analyzing the Vancouver Whitecaps and the changes to their squad as we are now entering a new year with a new season upon us.
So to get things started, what does the first eleven actually look like based on the current squad. Honestly, its difficult to say. All we know so far is that Rennie has a preference for the 4-3-3 system; however, we have had little indication as to what players we can see playing in this system.
Hassli, and Camilo both had strong seasons for the Whitecaps with both hitting 10+ goals, DeMerit is captain and the face of the franchise, while our fullbacks should be considered the best in the league.
So what does this look like?
Hassli
Camilo ?????
????? ????? ?????
Rochat DeMerit ????? Lee
Cannon
OK, I know, that's a whole lot of question marks about positions, but we can't say anyone else for sure, not even really Cannon, who's poor distribution I assume will frustrate Rennie enough to bring in a new Goalkeeper.
So who else could fill out this starting eleven?
The Back Line
When you play a 4-3-3 you definitely need a good holding-midfielder to break up counter-attacks, and the oppositions play in general because the 4-3-3 system generally pushes so many players forward. Knowing this, we have to put Koffie in at central midfield. He performed well throughout the season for such a young player, and Rennie appeared to be an admirer. And really, who else could the 'Caps put in that position.
Another critical position to get sorted out is DeMerits centerback partner. Of the current squad there is only really Boxall and Mitchell. Boxall was OK, but Mitchell received some positive reviews for his performances. Regardless, I expect Rennie to bring in a CB, but Mitchell gets the nod for now.
